Forecasting the 2021 Economy 

A Virtual School of Business Alumni Panel Discussion

Join us for a brief but lively conversation with three financial experts to hear their forecast of the 2021 economy as we dive headfirst into the new year and a new Presidential administration. The panel discussion featuring FSC alumnus Kenneth Rende '82 and FSC faculty members Dr. J. Betty Feng and Dr. Kenneth Liao will be moderated by Dr. Richard Vogel, Dean of the School of Business.

Speakers for January 28

Kenneth G. Rende ’82 is Chief Operating Officer - Private Wealth Management, a division of Neuberger Berman responsible for providing customized wealth management advice and solutions to individuals, families, businesses and charitable organizations. Ken joined Neuberger Berman in the Finance Department in 1991. During his time there, he rose to the position of Assistant Comptroller and played a leading role in the firm’s initial public offering. He later joined Wealth Management as the Chief Administration Officer before serving as Head of Wealth Management for ten years. In 2019, Neuberger Berman combined its Wealth Management and Private Asset Management businesses to form its Private Wealth Management division, of which Ken was named COO. Before joining the firm Ken spent five years at New York Life’s NYLIFE Securities. He received a BS in Accounting from the State University of New York at Geneseo and an AS in Business Administration from Farmingdale State College.

Dr. J. Betty Feng is Assistant Professor at the Department of Business Management at Farmingdale State College. Dr. Feng teaches courses on International Business, Global Strategy, Negotiation, and Innovation in Organizations. Her research interests include the roles of culture in adaptation, creativity, and intercultural interactions. She has served as the faculty advisor for the NYS Business Plan Competition and the International Business Club and established annual Innovation Challenge at Farmingdale. She is a member of the Tradeable Sectors work group for Long Island Regional Economic Development Council and editorial board for Journal of Business Research and China Currents. Dr. Feng came to academia after seven years of industry experience in supply chain management in global firms such as Dell and Whirlpool. She received her BA and MBA from Michigan State University and PhD from Georgia State University.

 

Dr. Kenneth Liao (Ph.D., 2016, Iowa State University) has been a member of the Economics Department faculty since 2017. He was previously a Visiting Professor at Oberlin College, and prior to that he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD). His research focuses on agricultural economics, biofuels, consumer preference and demand analysis, energy policy, and stated preference/survey methodology. He teaches upper-level field courses in applied microeconomics, environmental and natural resource economics, and urban and regional economics. He is on the Board of Directors for the New York State Economics Association (NYSEA), and he is a member of FSC’s Planning and Budget Committee, Committee on Planning and Resource Allocation (CPRA), and Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) Committee.

 

Dr. Richard Vogel (PhD, Florida International University) is the Dean of the School of Business and Professor of Economics. His research interests and areas include economic development, urban economic growth, natural hazards analysis, and business and economics education. He is the recipient of a National Science Foundation grant ($5000) to conduct an MAA Curriculum Foundation Workshop on the Mathematical needs of the Economics Community in 2008, and a New York Sea Grant Research Grant ($261,000), entitled, “Leveraging Long Island’s Coastal Heritage for the Future: Integration and Diversification of Long Island’s Coastal Industries.” In 2007, he was a Fulbright Fellow teaching as a Visiting Professor of Economics, in the department of Mathematical Economics at the National University of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar. He currently serves as the Treasurer of the Academy of Economics and Finance and is the 2nd Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business Administration (MAACBA). In 2020, he received the Academy of Economics and Finance (AEF) Fellows award and is the recipient of the AEF Service Fellow award in 2014, and AEF Teaching Fellow Award in 2013.
