MÓGŪ Co-Founders Cooking up a Business Plan for Success
John Kaczorowski and Ryan Guthrie, both FSC graduates of 2019, are founding members of MÓGŪ Modern Chinese Kitchen. Born on Long Island, MÓGŪ is the first modern Chinese kitchen to use smart tech and air-baking techniques instead of frying. John learned the Chinese restaurant business at an early age, working alongside his father who owned and operated Chow Superb Chinese Food in Massapequa. John convinced his cousin Ryan to join the MÓGŪ team.
John and Ryan were known on campus as “the Cousins.” They both studied business management and took every class together. Ryan was also a first baseman on the Rams and has applied many lessons he learned as an athlete in the business arena. Ryan recently said, “The biggest influence from my time at Farmingdale has been Professor Frank Liselli. He taught me so much about the business world and I am so grateful to have met him. The most important piece of information I took from his classes was the 4 building blocks [for a successful business] which are customer responsiveness, innovation, quality, and efficiency. I use these in Mógū and everyday life.”
MÓGŪ plans to open many more locations on Long Island and John and Ryan aspire to become regional managers as the concept expands beyond the Tri-State area. Go try the food and be sure to say hello to your fellow alumni the next time you visit MÓGŪ.
